SCEA Certification Part-II and Part-III

Sun Certified Enterprise Architect

I passed this exam in year 2007. SCEA Part-II is basically based on Assignment where one has to present architecture diagram with the help of UML. SCEA Part-III is essay based on the assignment which is submitted. This exam requires lot of effort to understand the requirement ( Case Study) and design in a efficient manner.

Sun has upgraded the exam to J2EE 5 version.

SCEA Certification Part-I

Sun Certified Enterprise Architect

I passed SCEA Part - I with 93% in year 2007. This exam is mostly based on real time scenarios and basic technology concepts. Wish me luck for Part-II and Part-III which is an assignment and essay which makes me eligible to be called as Software Architect :-) .

Preparation Tips :

I refered couple of books for SCEA among them are "All-In One Sun Certified Enterprise Architect for J2EE Study Guide by Paul R Allen and Sun Certified Enterprise Architect for J2EE Technology Study Guide by mark cade and simon roberts. This covers all the theory part related with Connectivity, Security, Ejbs, Design Patterns, Protocols etc.

I used couple of simulators such as Wizlabs, Learnkey , EPractize Labs simulator.

How Much Preparation Is Enough?

It varies from person to person depending upon how much experience one has in J2EE technology and UML. Typically it should take around 1 to 6 months :-) .

I would say one has to be "Jack of all , master of All" to clear this exam. This exam covers most of the J2EE features , methodologies, technologies to become a real Software Architect.

SCBCD Certification

Sun Certified Business Component Developer

I passed SCBCD with score of 90+% in year 2006. This was the first time where I understood EJB concepts. Overall I felt very comfortable and confident during this exam. More emphasis is given on Concepts and Specification on EJBs Technology.

Preparation Tips :

Just read Head First EJB by Kathy Sierra, Bert Bates and you are half done. I would recommend this book because it covers all the objectives of this exam with a humorous way :).. Wizlabs or ejbplus simulator will be helpful after going through this book.

How Much Preparation Is Enough?

One month or so is enough for getting ready. But full concentration is required to understand the concepts in EJBS..

SCWCD Certification

Sun Certified Web Component Developer

I passed SCWCD 1.4 with score of 93+% in year 2005. It was quite tough compared to the previous version of exam. They just introduced SCWCD 1.4 version based on JSP 2.0 specification.

Preparation Tips :

I used "Head First : Servlets and JSP" and SCWCD Exam Study Kit Second Edition: Java Web Component Developer Certification by Hanumant Deshmukh which helped me in initial preparation for SCWCD exam. One really has to know Javabean and custom tags concepts, syntax throughly to pass this exam.I used couple of simulators such as Wizlabs, JPlus, certgear etc.

It is difficult to answer as I have mentioned earlier. The answer varies from person to person.
To prepare for SCWCD you must understand that each of the exam objectives which can take a beginner anywhere from two month to six month or more to learn. As a whole one need to understand the web development concepts specifically concentrate more on javabeans and custom tags added in JSP 2.0 specification.

SCJP Certification

Sun Certified Java Programmer

I passed SCJP with score of 90+% in year 2004. I must say that with some hands on experience on java technology one can easily clear the exam, good news about it is passing score is just 52% ( Please check the latest info on sun site ) http://www.sun.com/training/certification/java/scjp.xml

Preparation Tips :

First I bought Khalid Mughal’s SCJP Sun certification book which fully covers the expectation of exam and is truly a study guide. Also Kathy Siera’s SCJP certification book is preety much the same.

Thanks to google search engine where I found so many mock exam which were very helpful.

Wizlabs Simulator is more then enough for clearing the exam. It has few real time practice exams, customized exam where you can choose the particular topic etc…

Also you need to have a good practice of objective type questions..

Test Taking Tips and Tricks. (TTTT)

• Prepare summary notes. Even though you may have read everything for the exam, having a few summary pages is a good idea. You can do a quick revision of all topics before the exam.
• Get through with the concepts before actually taking practice tests or mock exams
• Understand upcasting and downcasting concepts
• Object oriented Programming concepts should be distilled clear.
